Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
The rules that keep Match a calm, private, judgment-free space—written in plain English instead of legalese wherever possible.

How to Read This Document
This page combines our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy into one readable place. The Terms explain what’s expected of you as a member; the Privacy Policy explains what happens with your information. If you only have a minute, jump to the section that applies to you using the tags below.
Part One
Terms of Use
By creating an account or browsing Match, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the platform. These clauses set the baseline for how our community operates.
- Acceptance of terms. Registering a profile, logging in, or continuing to use Match after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the current version of these Terms.
- Account responsibility. You are responsible for the accuracy of your profile, the security of your login credentials, and any activity that occurs under your account.
- Content ownership. You retain ownership of photos, bios, and messages you post. You grant Match a limited, non-exclusive license to host and display that content on the platform.
- Platform changes. We may add, modify, or remove features at any time. Material changes to these Terms are announced in-app at least 14 days before they take effect.
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Part Two
Eligibility and 18+ Requirement
Match is an adults-only community. You must be at least 18 years old, legally able to form a binding contract, and not prohibited from using dating services under applicable law. Consistent with leading industry safety policies, we do not permit registered sex offenders, anyone convicted of or who has pleaded no contest to a felony or a violent or sexual offense, or anyone we reasonably suspect of sex trafficking. We reserve the right to consult public records and sex offender registries to enforce this clause.
Part Three
Acceptable Conduct
Our community standards are simple because the point is to feel safe, not to memorize a rulebook. Members agree to:
- Treat every person with respect, regardless of body, identity, or background.
- Use real, recent photos and truthful profile information.
- Honor stated boundaries and obtain clear consent before sharing intimate content.
- Report suspicious, abusive, or inauthentic behavior through the in-app tools.
Members agree not to:
- Shame, mock, or harass any member — including jokes about size, body type, or appearance.
- Post explicit, violent, or illegal material, or send unsolicited sexual content.
- Solicit money, advertise external services, or engage in any form of commercial scam.
- Impersonate another person, use automated bots, or scrape platform data.
- Attempt to deanonymize, stalk, or threaten another member on or off Match.
Part Four
Account Suspension and Termination
Accounts may be suspended or permanently removed in the following situations:
- Community standards violation. Shaming, harassment, or any behavior that breaks the conduct rules above results in warning, suspension, or immediate removal depending on severity.
- Safety concerns. If a report or internal review links your account to domestic abuse, assault, or criminal activity, all associated accounts will be banned.
- Eligibility failure. Accounts found to belong to minors or prohibited individuals are removed immediately and permanently.
- Repeated non-response. Extended inactivity combined with unresolved moderation flags may trigger account archival.
- Voluntary closure. You may delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion removes your profile from public view within 24 hours and purges personal data within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements.
Part Five
Privacy Policy
Privacy is the reason many members chose Match in the first place, and we treat it that way. We collect only what we need to run the platform, we never sell personal data to advertisers, and we make it easy to review or delete what we hold. If you want the operational detail — verification flow, reporting tools, discretion features — that lives on our Safety & Privacy page. Below is the legal version.
Part Six
Data We Collect and How We Use It
What we collect
- Account basics: email, age, city, chosen display name.
- Profile content: photos, bios, interests, prompts you write.
- Messages you send through the platform.
- Device and usage signals: IP, browser type, approximate location, session timing.
- Optional verification: selfie check (stored for review, then deleted).
How we use it
- To match you with compatible members.
- To keep the platform safe through moderation and fraud detection.
- To send transactional emails (verification, reports, important notices).
- To improve product quality using aggregated, de-identified analytics.
- To comply with legal obligations when lawfully required.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share message content with advertisers, and we do not use your private conversations to train third-party models.
Part Seven
Cookies and Tracking
Match uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how the platform is used. You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings at any time. The categories we rely on are:
- Strictly necessary: session tokens, security, and account login — required for the site to work.
- Preferences: remembering your theme choice, language, and saved filters.
- Analytics: first-party, privacy-respecting measurement of page visits and feature use — aggregated, never tied to message content.
We do not run third-party advertising cookies.
Part Eight
Your Rights and Choices
Wherever you live, we aim to honor the strongest reasonable standard of data rights. You may:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you by requesting an export from Settings.
- Correct any profile information that is out of date or inaccurate at any time.
- Delete your account and associated data, subject to limited retention for legal or safety reasons.
- Object to specific processing activities, including marketing emails, through a single unsubscribe link.
- Port your data to another service in a machine-readable format on request.
- Withdraw consent to optional processing without affecting the lawfulness of anything done before withdrawal.
