Safety and Privacy on a Private Dating Site
Match is built for people who want to date quietly, honestly, and on their own terms. This page explains exactly how anonymous profiles, verification, reporting tools, and data handling protect you—without a single buried paragraph of legalese.

Our Promise
Our Privacy Pledge
Privacy is not a feature we added late—it is the first assumption behind every screen on Match. Every profile is anonymous by default, every photo can be blurred until you choose to share, and no member is ever required to disclose physical measurements. We treat the words private dating site as a standard, not a marketing line.
“Real privacy means you can show up slowly, share on your own schedule, and trust that what you say here stays here.”
We do not sell user data to advertisers, we do not enrich profiles with data brokers, and we do not scrape external networks to link your identity across the web. If you ever want to disappear entirely, a single request from your settings removes your account and associated content within seven days.
Verified, Not Exposed
How We Verify Members
Verification on Match blends industry-standard video selfie technology with human review, because neither one alone catches everything. An AARP lab test of a major dating platform found that an AI-generated photo was flagged and removed within about an hour; we aim to match or beat that detection window with layered checks.
- Video selfie prompt. New members complete a short series of video prompts—an evolution of static pose photos pioneered across Match Group platforms—so a moderation system can compare real-time movement to profile photos.
- Phone or email verification. A one-time code confirms you are a real human with a reachable contact point, reducing throwaway accounts from known disposable providers.
- Photo authenticity scan. Uploaded images are scanned for AI-generation markers, reverse-image matches, and duplicates already active on the platform.
- Human review for edge cases. Accounts that trigger unusual-activity signals—rapid-fire messaging, identical bios, mismatched geolocation—are routed to a trained moderator before they interact with the community.
- Verified badge. Members who complete the process earn a small dusty rose checkmark visible on their profile. It is optional, but most long-term members choose it.
You Set the Boundary
Reporting Tools You Control
Every message thread, profile, and photo carries a reporting shortcut. You do not need to draft an essay, screenshot a conversation, or email support—one tap starts the review.
One-Tap Report
Flag any message or profile in a single tap. Reports are triaged within 24 hours, and urgent cases (threats, impersonation) within one.
“Are You Sure?” Prompt
Modeled after the feature first launched on Tinder in 2021, an automated nudge asks senders to reconsider potentially offensive language. In external data, 17% of users edited or deleted the message.
Instant Block & Mute
Block silently, mute without notifying the other member, or hide your profile from a specific person forever. You never have to explain yourself.
What We Store, What We Don’t
How Your Data Is Handled
We aim for the shortest honest answer possible: we keep what is needed to match you and keep the community safe, and we discard the rest on a clear schedule.
- Profile data stays encrypted at rest and is visible only inside the community—never indexed by search engines.
- Message history is retained for 90 days after a conversation ends, then automatically purged unless flagged for an active safety review.
- Verification media (video selfies, ID scans if submitted) is deleted within 30 days of approval; only a pass/fail signal is retained.
- Location is stored at the city level, not GPS coordinates, and can be switched to a hidden radius from your privacy settings.
- Analytics are aggregated and anonymized—no individual behavior profiles are sold or shared with advertisers.
- Deletion requests complete within seven days, covering profile, messages, photos, and associated metadata.

Community Standards
Our Anti-Harassment Policy
Zero tolerance, clearly enforced
Match follows the same zero-tolerance posture toward hate speech pioneered across the broader Match Group portfolio: a combination of trained human moderators, detection technology tuned to banned language, and fast-acting customer care review. Size-based shaming, unsolicited explicit content, and slurs are all direct violations—no warning required before removal.
Because this community exists specifically for size-acceptance, we enforce one rule that mainstream apps do not: jokes or references about penis size are not permitted in any conversation, profile, or photo caption. It is the most common reason a new member is removed in the first 30 days, and we consider that enforcement a feature, not a flaw.
Incognito By Design
Discretion Features for Every Member
Match behaves more like a quiet reading app than a loud marketplace. These features make it one of the more thoughtful incognito dating apps available to US members today.
Blurred Photos by Default
Your main photo appears blurred to non-matches. You choose when to reveal it, to whom, and you can revoke access at any point.
Screenshot Signals
When another member attempts a screenshot inside chat, you receive a quiet notification. Image sharing outside the platform is against community standards.
Hidden-Mode Browsing
Toggle hidden mode to browse profiles without appearing in anyone’s discovery feed. Your activity remains visible only to people you message first.
Unsearchable Profile
Profiles are not indexed by Google, and your display name never has to match your legal name. A friend searching your real name will not find you here.
Accountability
Safety by the Numbers
Beyond the Platform
External Support and Helplines
Some conversations deserve help beyond what any dating app can offer. These independent organizations provide specialist support and are not affiliated with Match.
- RAINN — the largest anti-sexual-violence organization in the United States. Match Group has previously partnered with RAINN to strengthen reporting processes on dating platforms. If you need immediate support, RAINN’s hotline is available 24/7.
- ThroughLine helpline network — a global directory of 1,300+ mental health and crisis helplines. Match Group partnered with ThroughLine to surface real-time support based on user location; we link to the same directory inside the app.
- National Domestic Violence Hotline — free, confidential, 24-hour support for anyone experiencing coercion or abuse in a current or past relationship.
- Licensed therapists — for sustained work on confidence and intimacy, our fear-of-intimacy guide includes guidance on when and how to find one.
